I would describe working at Port Sight Tax as diverse, challenging and fun.

What do you like most or most educational about working as a (work) student tax advisor?

The great diversity of activities always provides a nice change during the working day. You will come across cases from all corners of taxation. This also helps a lot for my studies, because you've seen a lot in practice. This variety also provides a healthy challenge, because no case is the same and you are always confronted with something you just don't quite know.

How would you describe the atmosphere within the team?

It's always fun at the office, no matter who you're in the office with. Everyone is trying to help each other and we all want to learn from each other. This ensures that we help each other move forward and that the beer is always fun at the end of the day.

What have you learned so far that you will take with you for your future?

Because I got the opportunity to start at Port Sight Tax early in my studies, I developed a broader view of the tax field here. With each case, my view grows on what may be relevant to future cases. I will always take this knowledge with me into the future.

Why would you recommend that others join Port Sight Tax?

At Port Sight Tax, you work in a very friendly and young team. You also have a lot of room to grow and your development is highly stimulated. You'll gain experiences that you'll carry with you for the rest of your career.

What is a moment or project that you are proud of?

I am proud of the projects we are taking on for clients without a large grant that we can help with personal tax problems. This is because, with these projects, I feel even more that I have made a real difference. I have this feeling with most projects, but especially with this one, because I feel that I have really been able to give these people peace of mind and overview.

How would you describe working at Port Sight Tax in a few words?

Challenging and extremely fun. Serious work with colleagues that, fortunately, does not always have to be done seriously. Or as I like to say: finally a place where “tax law” and “fun” can be in the same sentence.

What do you like most or most educational about working as a (work) student tax advisor?

That you get real responsibility from day one. Your development is completely in your own hands and you will be well helped along the way, no matter where your interests lie. Thanks to the broad spectrum of assignments, it won't take long before you work on projects that are right up your alley.

How would you describe the atmosphere within the team?

Super cozy and supportive. This is my first job in taxation, so I didn't know what the switch from just experiencing taxation from college to working part-time at a tax office would be like. In the end, that turned out to be not so bad. There is an open culture where you can always ask questions and where there is also room for a good conversation.‍

What have you learned so far that you will take with you for your future?

The trick is knowing where to find the answer and daring to ask. You don't have to do your work alone, make use of the expertise around you.

But just as valuable: being able to translate complex tax issues into human language. From passive listening in lecture halls to actively explaining things to customers. This change of roles was unexpected, sometimes confronting, but above all incredibly educational for me.

Why would you recommend that others join Port Sight Tax?

First: the nice colleagues and a pleasant working atmosphere. But especially because you will be working as a real advisor. You don't sit on the sidelines, but are directly part of the team and work on real customer files. It's a place where you can push the limits of your capacity and grow extremely fast (both professionally and personally). You really get the chance to prove yourself here.

Educational, fun, accessible, rewarding

What do you like most or most educational about working as a (work) student tax advisor?

High level of personal responsibility, giving you an advantage in your career over your fellow students who do not work at PST. You quickly learn to participate in the world of consulting, including commercialism very early on. Furthermore, the team is very young and approachable, which makes working very fun.

How would you describe the atmosphere within the team?

Mostly accessible, you don't have the idea that the partners are really your bosses, but many more friends with whom you work.

What have you learned so far that you will take with you for your future?

How to actually “work”. The intricacies such as how to write good emails to clients, how to network, how to advise and how to properly manage clients come to PST early in the career. In addition, all the tax knowledge that a good generalist has in his pocket for a successful career in taxation!

Why would you recommend that others join Port Sight Tax?

Simple, it's super educational. I've learned more at PST than I've learned in half the time with my other working students combined. In addition, you get a dash of entrepreneurship and independence that is important for every ambitious student/starter for the rest of their career!

What is a moment or project that you are proud of?

I myself am responsible for organizing the weekly VTO sessions, it's really nice to see how that has developed from nothing to what it is today. That's also the great thing about working at PST, because it's still such a young organization, you can also take on projects yourself and really change the organization!
